US Army Veteran, 22 Years of Service
John is the co-founder, CFO, and COO of a fintech startup called Goodworld (www.goodworld.me). They connect charities, donors, and corporates with digital tools to drive fundraising. They were named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies and a top veteran-owned company by Forbes. Before starting GoodWorld,
he launched a smart cities startup called RideScout with three other veterans, and they were acquired by Daimler-Mercedes in 2015.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, John did 22 years in the Army and in government, retiring as deputy director of special operations and counterterrorism policy in the Office of the SecDef. In this work, he spent a lot of time in locations across East Africa, Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, Asia, and Europe. He was commissioned and graduated from Boston College, and did his graduate work at Georgetown. Later, he was an Assistant Professor at
West Point, and is currently an adjunct professor of public policy at Georgetown.
On a completely different note, John spent 5 years in an indie rock band called StoneDriver. They released three
albums: “Rocks”, "Chasing Demons”, and “Descent" (all available on iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, Amazon, Tidal, etc)
and were named City Paper's Best DC Band in 2018. He has four adult sons, two still in college back in Boston, one
who is graduated and working in Boston, and one who is a Marine Lieutenant in naval aviator training down in Pensacola. John and his wife, Lisa, live in Old Town Alexandria, just across the DC line.
